Inclusion

WDSRA is committed to providing a variety of recreation and leisure choices for individuals who have special needs. We believe that all individuals should be provided with leisure opportunities that allow for performance at their highest level of ability. WDSRA recognizes that park district or recreation department programs may be the best choice for individuals and that they may best meet individual needs. To facilitate successful participation, WDSRA works cooperatively with member agencies throughout the inclusion process.

Our professional staff can assist you in choosing an appropriate program, providing referral services, conducting necessary staff training, securing support staff, securing adaptive equipment or securing other accommodations which might be deemed necessary.

Some of our most frequently asked questions about inclusion are answered here.

March 2009--WDSRA Receives Grant from Bubel/Aiken Foundation

bubel aiken logoWDSRA is proud to be the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Bubel/Aiken Foundation (TBAF) to support inclusion services for the Before and After School Programs offered through our partnering Park Districts.

The grant covers the 2009-10 school year and is part of their “Let’s All Play” effort to promote inclusion services. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation provides services and financial assistance to promote the full inclusion of children with disabilities into the life environment of those without.  The Foundation strives to create awareness about the diversity of individuals with disabilities and the possibilities that inclusion can bring.

Through the Let’s ALL Play Program, the TBAF supports recreational programs in their efforts to implement inclusive camps by providing a program model, funding, and training. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation has been actively developing the “Let’s All Play” program since the program’s inception in 2004.  Today, the program supports 35 recreational programs across the country.  More information about the Foundation can be found at www.bubelaiken.org.
